The AI in Research Operations Network (AIRON) is an independent non-profit organisation advancing education for the public benefit in the responsible, ethical and effective use of artificial intelligence within research operations and the wider research and innovation ecosystem.

As AI increasingly influences how research is planned, supported and managed, AIRON provides educational opportunities that help people develop the knowledge, understanding and practical skills needed to make informed decisions about its use.

Through learning, knowledge sharing and professional discussion, AIRON supports a better understanding of AI while encouraging responsible, ethical and evidence-informed practice.

What We Do

To further our charitable purpose, AIRON provides:

• educational projects that encourage knowledge sharing and informed discussion.

Our activities are designed to increase understanding of AI and encourage critical evaluation. AIRON does not promote particular AI products, technologies or commercial interests.

Who We Support

Our educational activities are open to anyone with an interest in the responsible use of AI within research operations and the wider research and innovation ecosystem, including research managers, administrators, researchers, research-support professionals, funders and institutions.

Membership is not required to access AIRON’s freely available educational resources or public events.

Public Benefit

AIRON is committed to making education as widely accessible as possible.

Alongside paid educational programmes that support the charity’s sustainability, AIRON provides free webinars, educational resources, publications and other learning opportunities. Where resources allow, reduced-fee and subsidised places are offered to widen participation.

All income and any surplus generated by AIRON are applied solely to further the charity’s educational purpose and public benefit.

Leadership and Governance

AIRON is governed by an independent Board of Trustees, who are responsible for ensuring that the charity operates in accordance with charity law and delivers public benefit.
